3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain providing an easy ride for your infant. They are also simpler to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheel buggy and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or modular seat units that are positioned tightly in the frame and deliver the most efficient shape and weight distribution.
Stability
A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is the reason it's an ideal option for off-road walks (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat). These buggys often have oversized front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some even have a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.
It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower centre of gravity than 4-wheeled models, which can mean that they topple over more easily. The most reliable 3-wheeled pushchairs are built with the perfect design to ensure they stay stable in any condition. They should be able turn on a dime and be easy to steer using one hand. They also feature an incline of 360o for the front wheel, which makes them ideal to navigate difficult terrain.

Look for models that have pneumatic tyres. They are made to work on tracks that are not paved, and should be able to take on rocks, mud, gravel, etc. Many all-terrain buggies come with a swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked to provide added stability when tackling very rough terrain.
A 3-wheel stroller is an ideal option for runners or those who prefer to walk quickly and uphill, particularly if you're planning to attach a carrycot or car seat. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a wide-facing seat that reclines flat and comes with a new 5-point harness as well as storage space for all your equipment (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). 3 wheel pushchair , compact and suitable for babies and can be used in conjunction with a carrycot or car seat. It also handles some light jogging but isn't intended for serious joggers.
Weight
If you are looking for a buggy to take on difficult terrain, you should select one with big tires. These are made to handle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks with ease and still provide smooth riding. These are also great for jogging because they have built-in suspension and are able to climb up and down kerbs. The downside is that they're a bit heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the best 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler is highly mobile due to its 16 rear wheels and the front wheel can be locked. It has air tyres which require pumping occasionally and can hold children until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler enjoyed the shape of the seat and she found it easy to steer with her three-year-old child on the board.
Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, with a movable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs and can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram with an infant car seat for infants and toddlers.
Fabric sling seats are tucked within the frame of the buggie rather than sitting on top of it as modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the ideal height. It is easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you don't know how many times you'll need to do this as a new parent!).
Seating
There are many options for seating in three wheelers. For babies you have the option to use the carrycot plus (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can sit in the world-facing or parent facing seat that is large and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It is important to note that the seats do not recline completely however, they can be adjusted to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.
A sling made of fabric is also available. It's a benefit that it is positioned inside the frame instead of on top as a seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with obstacles.
This type of buggy has an enormous basket, along with other useful features such as an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some innovative visibility lights that can be positioned on the front of the passengers for improved safety on difficult terrain.
If you're searching for a single baby buggy that will expand with your family There's the new sport(tm) that's the first in the world to take a single infant from day one and adapt to take 2 or even 3 once your baby has grown, all within the footprint of one buggy.
Stores
The 3-wheeled frame is more sturdy and can be moved with one hand. It's also more suitable for terrain that is difficult. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler.
A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It is also able to take a carrycot and car seat and you can use it from the moment you are born.
MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frames didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before buying.
It's worth looking into a 3-wheeler that can take 2 (or even 3!) This is the best option for your child's future and will help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from the day of birth as a single buggie and then converted into twin buggies once your baby starts to walk.
Tyres
Air filled tyres are designed to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. You'll find these on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath discovered to provide "an amazing ride for my toddler". She also noted that its grippy tyres made it easy to tackle cobbles and kerbs.
3 wheeler pushchair are sometimes difficult to maintain their inflation and must be filled regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, so you should always carry a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.
PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres but they're just as durable. You can identify PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also slide across smooth and tidy surfaces.
If you move your hand over the tyres, you can tell if they're PU or rubber. If it feels as if it's moving, then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres over an even, clean surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.
Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain of high-performance buggies. This could make your buggy less stable as the foam loses its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy because they generate lots of noise when you turn and navigate around town.
